كأَنَّas though دَميmy blood يومَon the day of الفِراقِparting سَرَوْاthey journeyed by night بِهِwith it
وَقَدْthough already سفكُوهُthey spilled it بِاحتِثَاثِby urging onward الرَّكائِبِthe riding camels
As though, on the day of parting, they carried my blood away by night,
My companions, when we parted, took my blood away
though they had spilled it by urging the riding camels onward.
Spilling it while loading the mounts to depart
أَظُنُّهُمُI think they لَوْif فَتَّشُواthey searched فيin رِحالِهِمْtheir baggage
إِذاًthen وَجَدواthey would find آثارَهُits traces فيin الحَقائِبِthe saddlebags
I think that, if they searched their baggage,
If they had searched their saddlebags, I imagine
they would find its traces in the saddlebags.
They would have found its traces in their traveling packs
إِذاwhen أَناI دافَعْتُI ward off الخُطُوبَcalamities بِذِكْرِهِمْby remembering them
نَسيتُI forget الذيwhat بينيbetween me وبينَand between النَّوائِبِmisfortunes
When I ward off calamities by remembering them,
When I dispel my worries by thoughts of them
I forget what lies between me and misfortunes.
I forget what lies between me and misfortune
