وَلاحَ هِلالُ الفِطْرِ نِضْواً كأَنَّهُ

وَلاحَ هِلالُ الفِطْرِ نِضْواً كأَنَّهُ

بُدُوُّ غِرَارِ السَّيْفِ مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الغِمْدِ

بُدُوُّ غِرَارِ السَّيْفِ مِنْ أَسْفَلِ الغِمْدِ

And the crescent of Eid al-Fitr appeared, slender, as though it were

The crescent moon of Eid appeared radiantly as though

a sword’s edge emerging from the bottom of the scabbard.

It were the first gleam of a sword being drawn from its scabbard
