    Whenever he strove hard and pressed them fiercely,

    they raised a whirlwind of dust around him.

    He turned toward them, seeking water by night, and brayed among them,

    to bring them to water at Shari‘ah or Sarar.

    So he brought them together to plentiful, thirst-quenching water,

    where death itself was encountered.

    فَأَعجَلَها وَقَد شَرِبَت غِمارا

    When they went down to drink, they quenched their burning thirst;

    then he hurried them away, after they had taken small draughts.
