كَأَنَّهاas though they وَقَدand already بَداappeared عُوارِضُʿUwāriḍ
وَفاضَand hurried onward مِنfrom إيرٍĪr بِهِنَّwith them فائِضُa drover
They seemed—ʿUwāriḍ now in view,
As if when its hills had appeared
And a drover urging them onward from Īr,
And a flood from it had overflowed abundantly
وَقِطقِطٌand fine drizzle حَيثُwhere يَخوضُwades الخائِضُthe wader
وَاللَيلُand the night بَينَbetween قَنَوينِthe two Qanā mountains رابِضُcrouching
And fine drizzle where the wader wades,
And blackened wherever the swimmer swims
And night crouching between the two Qanā mountains—
And the night sitting between two crouching hills
بِجَلهَةِat the edge of الواديthe valley قَطاًsandgrouse نَواهِضُtaking flight
Like sandgrouse taking wing at the valley’s edge.
With fireflies dancing in the valley's stillness
