فَأَظهَرَso he showed وُدّاًaffection وَالعَداوَةُwhile enmity سِرُّهُhis secret
فَأَظهَرَ وُدّاً وَالعَداوَةُ سِرُّهُ
لِحاجَتِهِbecause of his need كانَتwas إِلَيَّto me فَأَسرَفاso he went to excess
لِحاجَتِهِ كانَت إِلَيَّ فَأَسرَفا
So he showed affection, while enmity was his secret,
He showed affection while enmity was his secret
Because he had need of me, and so he went to excess.
For he was in need of me, so he went too far
فَكُنتُso I was لَهُtoward him بِالإِحتِراسِwith vigilance وَغَيرِهِand other things besides it
فَكُنتُ لَهُ بِالإِحتِراسِ وَغَيرِهِ
لَدُنfrom the time when ظَهَرَتappeared مِنهُfrom him المَودَّةُaffection مُضعِفاdoubling
لَدُن ظَهَرَت مِنهُ المَودَّةُ مُضعِفا
So I guarded against him with vigilance and other measures,
So I was on my guard with him and otherwise
Doubling them from the moment his affection appeared,
Since the time he showed me friendship, I redoubled
لِعِلميbecause of my knowledge بِهِof him أَنthat سَوفَwill يَرجِعُhe returns بِالَّتيwith that which
لِعِلمي بِهِ أَن سَوفَ يَرجِعُ بِالَّتي
تَكونُwould be عَلَيناto us مِنهُfrom him بِالعَودِupon return أَخوَفاmore fearsome
تَكونُ عَلَينا مِنهُ بِالعَودِ أَخوَفا
For I knew him: he would return with that which
Because I knew about him that he would eventually return to that
Would be more fearsome to us, coming from him again.
Which from him in recurrence would be more fearful for us
