وَأَعجَلَناand hurried us وَشكُimminence الفِراقِparting وَبَينَناand between us
وَأَعجَلَنا وَشكُ الفِراقِ وَبَينَنا
حَديثٌtalk كَتَنفيسِlike the sighing of المَريضَينِthe two sick people مُزعِجُtroubling
حَديثٌ كَتَنفيسِ المَريضَينِ مُزعِجُ
And the imminence of parting hurried us, while between us
And we hastened, though parting was near,
was troubling talk, like the sighing of two sick people—
A talk, like the breathing of two who are ill, irksome,
حَديثٌtalk لَوَif اَنَّthat اللَحمَthe meat يَصلىis roasted بِحَرِّهِby its heat
حَديثٌ لَوَ اَنَّ اللَحمَ يَصلى بِحَرِّهِ
غَريضاًfresh and raw أَتىwould reach أَصحابَهُits owners وَهوَand it was مُنضَجُfully cooked
غَريضاً أَتى أَصحابَهُ وَهوَ مُنضَجُ
talk—were meat set to roast in its heat,
A talk, that if flesh could pray in its burning,
fresh and raw, it would reach its owners fully cooked.
Would come to its friends while yet scarcely singed.
