مَاكِدْتَyou scarcely تَكحُلُyou apply kohl to أَرقداًa deep sleeper
مَاكِدْتَ تَكحُلُ أَرقداً
خُبْثاًout of malice لِتحرِمَهُto deprive him of الوَسَنْslumber
خُبْثاً لِتحرِمَهُ الوَسَنْ
You scarcely applied kohl to a deep sleeper,
You did not use kohl to sleep
out of malice, to deprive him of slumber—
Mischievously, so it would be forbidden to sleep
إلاnothing but الغَسِيلَthe washing علىupon الغَسِيلِthe washing
إلا الغَسِيلَ على الغَسِيلِ
كَذاthus عليthrough مَرِّthe passage of الزَّمَنْtime
كَذا علي مَرِّ الزَّمَنْ
nothing but washing upon washing,
Except for washing after washing
thus, through the passage of time,
Through the course of time
حتِّىuntil تَقولَsay لكَto you اللآمةُthe reproachers
حتِّى تَقولَ لكَ اللآمةُ
مَاnot خَرَجْتَyou have departed عَنِfrom اللَّبَنْmilk
مَا خَرَجْتَ عَنِ اللَّبَنْ
until the reproachers say to you:
Until blame would say to you
“You have not moved beyond milk.”
You did not come out of infancy
