إليكَto you بِالإذْنِwith permission صارَcame الناسُthe people والجُودُand generosity
فَلاso not عَدِمْناwe lack فَقِيداًsomething missing فِيكَin you مَوجُودُpresent
With permission, people and generosity have come to you.
To you, with permission, people and generosity have come
So may we never lack what is absent elsewhere but found in you.
So we never lack a prisoner in you that is present
وَلِلرَّبِيعِand spring has لِسانٌa tongue ظَلَّkept on يُنشِدُناreciting to us

And spring has a tongue that kept reciting to us:
And for spring a tongue that has remained reciting to us
The plants are supple, and the sultan is praised.
The plants are most plentiful and the sultan is praised
وأَقبلَand came forward الغَيثُthe rain منهُfrom him حَاجِباًa chamberlain مَلِكاًa king
كَمْhow many شاعَbecame renowned يَوماًa day لهُof his بالنَّصرِwith victory مَشهودُwitnessed
And rain came forth from him—a chamberlain, himself a king.
And the rain has come from it frowning like a king
How many a day of his, marked by victory, became renowned!
How often has its victory with it been witnessed
والنِّيلُand the Nile كَمْhow often حَسَدَenvied القاضِيthe judge علىover مَلِكٍa king
تَصوَّرَtook form الجُودُgenerosity فيهِin him بَلْrather هُوَhe الجُودُgenerosity
And how often the Nile envied the judge over a king
And the Nile, how much has it envied the judge over a king
In whom generosity took form—indeed, he is generosity itself.
Generosity was imagined in it, but it itself is generosity
مَلْكٌa king يَصدُّturns aside بِنُعماهُwith his bounty القلوبَthe hearts علىin accordance with

ماهَذَّبتْهُwhat they refined him with بهِwith it آباؤهُhis forefathers الصِّيدُthe noble ones
A king who turns hearts aside with his bounty, in accordance with
A king who defends hearts with his favors against
That with which his noble forefathers refined him.
What his forefathers had refined with their hunt
فَيَاso, O لَجُدودِfor the fortunes of العَواليthe lofty lances والجدودِand the forefathers معاًtogether
لِواؤُهُhis banner حَيثُwhere حَلَّalighted النَّجْمُthe star مَعْقُودُfastened
So marvel at the fortunes of the lofty lances and the forefathers alike!
So for the nobility of ancestors and generosity together
His banner is fastened where the star alights.
Its banner where the star remains bound

His is a watering place of justice, where all are equal:
It has a law of justice according to which a legislation
The lions of the wilderness, the oryx, the sheep, and the wolf.
The lion of glory and greatness and esteem and the master

O you who string spear-thrusts in his enviers’ throat-hollows,
O composer of censure in the nights of his envious
As in a craft, no neck is bare of his stringing.
Like a craft that did not lack from his composition good

I have brought it—the best one of scant means can offer—and for the
I have indeed come with it the effort of the impaired and for the
Night traveler with it and the one who stays at home, there is song.
Horseman with it and resident of the house warbling
