مَنْwhoever لَمْdid not يَمُدَّextend نَداهُhis bounty ليَّto me بِراحَةٍwith a palm
مَنْ لَمْ يَمُدَّ نَداهُ ليَّ بِراحَةٍ
أَلْزَمْتُI bound رِجْليmy foot عنهُaway from him قَيْدَthe fetter of الياسِdespair
أَلْزَمْتُ رِجْلي عنهُ قَيْدَ الياسِ
Whoever has not extended his bounty to me with his palm,
He who did not extend to me a helping hand
I shackled my foot with despair, keeping it away from him.
I have bound my feet from him with despair's chain
وَلَقَدْand indeed يَقِلُّis too little لِمنْfor one who سَعَىhastened ليَّto me بِرُّهُhis kindness
وَلَقَدْ يَقِلُّ لِمنْ سَعَى ليَّ بِرُّهُ
سَعْييmy hastening علَىon عَيْنيmy eye إليهِto him وَراسِيand my head
سَعْيي علَى عَيْني إليهِ وَراسِي
And indeed, for one whose kindness has hastened to me, it is too little
And he who strove to do me good, his kindness to me indeed grows less
For me to hasten to him on my eye and head.
While my striving for him continues endlessly
