We revisit him in a grave over which the clouds have wept,

And the gardens' bud-sheaths were rent in mourning for him.

It renews my grief that he departs today,

And the fast approaches, with his bounty lost to us.

And how many noble deeds belong to the minister Muhammad,

At whose two shores Hatim of generosity hovers!

O his tomb, you lie beside two glories, through whom

Bedouin Arabs and non-Arabs vie in eminence.

And Ali—may God prolong his life

and the lives of his sons—is surely reaping reward.

    ولا مِثلَ هذا الأجْرِ واللَّهُ عَالِمُ

    And in every reward, his is the greatest share;

And no reward equals this—God knows.

Nor is anyone like him in bearing his loss; for only

in proportion to the stature of the resolute do great resolves come.
