نَجْلُson شَمْسِShams (sun) الدِّينِal-Din (the faith) مِنamong أَنعامهِhis favors
نَجْلُ شَمْسِ الدِّينِ مِن أَنعامهِ
وَهْوَand he فيin المَهْدِthe cradle بهِwith him جِيدِيmy neck مُقَلَّدْadorned with a necklace
وَهْوَ في المَهْدِ بهِ جِيدِي مُقَلَّدْ
The son of Shams al-Din is among his gifts;
The radiant son of al-Din from his blessings,
Though he is in the cradle, my neck is adorned with him.
While yet in the cradle my neck was bedecked with him.
فَمتَىso whenever خِفْتُI feared الأَذَىharm منfrom زَمَنيmy times
فَمتَى خِفْتُ الأَذَى من زَمَني
قُلْتُI said فيat وَقْعِthe striking الأَذَىharm يَالَمُحمَّدْO Muhammad, help!
قُلْتُ في وَقْعِ الأَذَى يَالَمُحمَّدْ
So whenever I feared harm from my times,
So whenever I feared harm from my time,
I said, when harm struck, 'O Muhammad, help!'
I said, at the occurrence of harm: O Muhammad!
