بِكَthrough you قَدْindeed تَيمَّنتِhave taken as a good omen المُلوكُthe kings الصِّيدُthe proud
إذْfor حَيْثُwherever سِرْتَyou traveled تَيسَّرَbecame easy المَقْصُودُthe goal
The proud kings have indeed taken you as a good omen,
With you, hunting became auspicious for kings
For wherever you traveled, the goal became easy to attain.
As wherever you went, the sought became easy

كَانَتْwas كُفايتَهاwhat sufficed for them اللَّياليthe nights السُّودُthe black
The whiteness of snow conceals from you paths
The whiteness of snow hides paths from you
Which the black nights alone had sufficed to hide.
Yet the dark nights sufficed as guides
وَبَداand appeared جَبِينُكَyour brow فيin الدُّجَىthe darkness فَكأَنَّهُso, as though it were

And your brow appeared in the darkness, as though it were
And your forehead shone in the gloom as though

In it columns of dawn's cleavage stood

Between valleys and towering peaks,
Between valleys and towering heights
There the horses have descents and climbs.
For horses, a descending and ascending road
قَدْindeed أَقْسَمَتْhave sworn أَكُوَارُهاtheir camel-saddles وَسُرُوجُهاand their horse-saddles

Their camel-saddles and their horse-saddles have sworn:
Their waterskins and saddles swore
No wooden saddle has ever journeyed upon a back bearing your like.
None ever rode a back like yours
