وَنَارُ جَوى تَنْبثُّ بَيْنَ الجَوانِحِ
The longing of one far away turned him back toward his native lands,
Longing for his homeland made the homesick man yearn,
and a fire of heartache spreading between his ribs.
And the fire of love spread through his being.

وَلَيْسَ عَذُول في الغَرَامِ بِنَاصِحِ
An ally of passion, he suspects his sincere adviser of deceit,
A lover's ally hides advice from him,
and no reproacher is a sincere adviser in love.
In love there is no good advisor.

And he longs for a dwelling among the landmarks of Wajra,
And he longs for the landmarks of Wajrat, his home,
whose lions have become obedient to the gazelles passing from left to right.
Its lions now tame before the zebras.

I envy them for my conscience, so I said:
love that filled me with suspicion, until I mistrusted my own limbs!
Passion has nurtured me until I suspected my own limbs.
