قَدْindeed كُنْتُI was فيin شِدَّةٍdistress بالأمْسyesterday قَدْalready عَرَضتْhad arisen
قَدْ كُنْتُ في شِدَّةٍ بالأمْس قَدْ عَرَضتْ
فَلَمْso, not أَبِتْI spend the night أَوbefore (here) أَتىcame مِنfrom عِندِكَyou الفَرَجُrelief
فَلَمْ أَبِتْ أَو أَتى مِن عِندِكَ الفَرَجُ
Only yesterday I was in the grip of a hardship that befell me;
Yesterday I was in distress that had befallen me;
but before I had passed the night, relief came from you.
And before the night was over, relief came from you.
وَجَاءَand came صَدْرٌa platter (also “breast”) حكىresembled صَدْرَthe breast of الوَزيرِthe vizier بِهِthrough it
وَجَاءَ صَدْرٌ حكى صَدْرَ الوَزيرِ بِهِ

تُنْسَى الهُمُومُ التي في الصَّدْرِ تَعْتَلِجُ
My breast came to mirror the Vizier’s own: through him
And a platter came, resembling the vizier’s breast; through it
the cares that seethe within the breast are forgotten.
The worries that seethe within the breast are forgotten.
وَمِنand from شَمائِلِthe virtues of مَوْلانَاour master حَلاوَتُهُits sweetness

وَمِن ثَنَائي عَليهِ الطِّيبُ والأَرَجُ
Among our lord’s noble traits is his sweetness,
Its sweetness comes from our master’s virtues,
and from my praise of him come perfume and fragrance.
And its perfume and fragrance from my praise of him.
