أَيّاO خَاضِبَdyer of الشَّيْبِgray hair حَتَّىuntil مَتَىwhen
أَيّا خَاضِبَ الشَّيْبِ حَتَّى مَتَى
تُسَوّدُهُyou blacken it وَهْوَwhile it يَسْتَعْبِدُكْenslaves you
تُسَوّدُهُ وَهْوَ يَسْتَعْبِدُكْ
O dyer of gray hair, how long
O you who dye your hair with henna, for how long
will you blacken it while it enslaves you?
Will you enslave yourself to it,
وَمَاand what حَاجَةٌneed لِشبابٍfor youth غَدَتْhas come to
وَمَا حَاجَةٌ لِشبابٍ غَدَتْ
تُسَوِّدُblacken وَجْهَكَyour face فيهِin it يَدُكْyour hand
تُسَوِّدُ وَجْهَكَ فيهِ يَدُكْ
And what need is there for youth in which
When you have no need for youthfulness that
your hand has taken to blackening your face?
Stains your face with your own hand.
