دَعْوَةٌan invitation ليof mine فيconcerning النَّحْوِgrammar قدindeed جَمَعَتْناbrought us together
دَعْوَةٌ لي في النَّحْوِ قد جَمَعَتْنا
حَلْقَةًin a circle ثُمَّthen فَرَّقَتْناscattered us السَّماءُthe sky
حَلْقَةً ثُمَّ فَرَّقَتْنا السَّماءُ
My invitation to discuss grammar brought us together
A summons in grammar brought us together
in a circle; then the sky scattered us.
Into a circle, then the heavens scattered us.
فَوَهَتْso weakened حُجَّةُthe argument المُبّرِدِal-Mubarrid فيهاin it
فَوَهَتْ حُجَّةُ المُبّرِدِ فيها
والكِسَائىُّand al-Kisa’i رَاحَdeparted والفَرَّاءُand al-Farra’
والكِسَائىُّ رَاحَ والفَرَّاءُ
So al-Mubarrid’s argument faltered there,
There the argument of al-Mubarrad paled,
and al-Kisa’i departed, and al-Farra’ too.
And al-Kisa'i departed, and al-Farra'.
