لَمْdid not يَعُدْنيvisit me in illness مُحَمَّدٌMuhammad مُذْsince تَشَكَّيْتُI complained of illness
وَكَمْand how often جِئْتُهُI came to him وَحَاشاهُand may he be spared illness عَائِدْas a visitor to the sick
Muhammad has not visited me since I complained of illness;
though often I visited him when he was ill—may he be spared!
وَهْوَand he لاdoes not يَنكُرُfail to recognize السِّراجَal-Siraj (the lamp) وَكَمْand how often ضَbrought them both together (word's beginning)
مَّهُماbrought them both together (word's completion) فيin المَسَاءِthe evening وَقْتٌa moment وَاحدْone
And he does not fail to recognize al-Siraj (the lamp); how often has—
—a single moment at evening brought the two together!
