عَسَى خَبَرٌ مِن الإنجاز شَافٍ
لِمُبتَدأٍfor a beginning; for a grammatical subject مِنof الوَعْدِthe promise الجميلِthe gracious
لِمُبتَدأٍ مِن الوَعْدِ الجميلِ
May news of fulfillment bring healing
May news of success come that heals
To a beginning of a gracious promise.
The beginnings made of beautiful promises
فِعْلمُfor the science النحَّوِof grammar دَانَbowed; yielded لِسيبويهِto Sibawayh
فِعْلمُ النحَّوِ دَانَ لِسيبويهِ
وَكانَand was الأَصْلُthe foundation فِيهِin it لِلخَليلِbelonging to al-Khalil
وَكانَ الأَصْلُ فِيهِ لِلخَليلِ
For the science of grammar bowed to Sibawayh,
The knowledge of grammar submitted to Sibawayh
And its foundation belonged to al-Khalil.
While its origins belonged to Al-Khalil
