أَفيَّ تُنْظَمُ أَلغَازُكُمْ

أَفيَّ تُنْظَمُ أَلغَازُكُمْ

وَفيَّ تُخلَدُ تِلكَ الأَهَاجِي

وَفيَّ تُخلَدُ تِلكَ الأَهَاجِي

Is it about me that your riddles are composed,

In which are your riddles composed,

and about me that those satires are immortalized,

And in which are those passions immortalized,

لِيُنبيكَ أَنيّ أَبُو زَيدِها

لِيُنبيكَ أَنيّ أَبُو زَيدِها

وَمَا لِلسَّرُوجيّ مَا لِلسِّراجِ

وَمَا لِلسَّرُوجيّ مَا لِلسِّراجِ

to tell you that I am their Abu Zayd,

To inform you that I am her lover,

and that al-Saruji has not what al-Siraj has?

What belongs to the horseman is not for the lamp.
