صِرْتُI became المُنقَّبَthe hole-riddled one والمُمزَّقْand the torn one
I was cured of scabies that
left me riddled with holes and torn.

And all night I scratch with my el-
bows and both hands, yet cannot keep up.

Naked as a stick, dried-
out, and my eyelid knows only sleeplessness.
وَكأَنَّand as though جِسمِىmy body مِنfrom دَميmy blood

And my body seems, from my own blood
drawn by my fingernails, like the perfume-anointed Corner.
