أَرَى القَومَ قَد مَلُّوا السَّماحَةَ والنَّدَى

أَرَى القَومَ قَد مَلُّوا السَّماحَةَ والنَّدَى

وَكَمْ بَينَ مَعْذُورٍ إلى غَيْرِ مَعْذُورِ

وَكَمْ بَينَ مَعْذُورٍ إلى غَيْرِ مَعْذُورِ

I see the people have grown weary of generosity and bounty.

I see the people have wearied of gentleness and dew

And what a difference between one with an excuse and one without!

And how many excused ones to unexcused ones!

وَرُبَّ سِراجٍ ضَاعَ بَيْنَ بُيُوتِهِمْ

وَرُبَّ سِراجٍ ضَاعَ بَيْنَ بُيُوتِهِمْ

فَباتَ بِلا زَيْتٍ وَبَاتُوا بِلا نُورِ

فَباتَ بِلا زَيْتٍ وَبَاتُوا بِلا نُورِ

And many a lamp has gone to waste among their houses;

How many lamps were lost among their homes

So it spent the night without oil, and they spent the night without light.
