I saw Ibn Khunufr’s nose, and already
I saw the nose of Ibn Khunfudh when
the sides of its walls had risen high.
The sides of its walls became long.
أَنْفٌa nose أَبوfather of الهَوْلِterror علىdespite جِرْمهِits bulk
مُحْتَقَرٌinsignificant فيin جَنْبِthe side of بُنيانهِits edifice
A nose—the Sphinx, for all its bulk,
A nose, shameful in its sinfulness,
is paltry beside that nose’s edifice.
Contemptible next to its building.
وَهْوَand he كَسَبْعِlike the lion of الحَوْضِthe basin فيin فَتحهِhis opening

And he is like the basin’s lion in opening
It’s like the lion’s snout in its wideness,
his mouth and in displaying his eyelids.
With its mouth and evident upper jaw.

And the likeness in him becomes complete when
The comparison is complete in it when
he is submerged in water up to his ears.
It is submerged in water up to its ears.
