وَلي خِدَمٌ سَطَّرْتُها قَبَل هذهِ

وَلي خِدَمٌ سَطَّرْتُها قَبَل هذهِ

وَلَمْ يَأْتِ عَنها بالجَوابِ مُشَرِّفُ

وَلَمْ يَأْتِ عَنها بالجَوابِ مُشَرِّفُ

I have services I set down before this,

I have servants I appointed before this one

and no one has come to honor me with a reply to them.

Yet no honorable reply did they bring

فَكُنْ ذاكِرِي بالغَيْبِ فيمن ذَكرتَهُ

فَكُنْ ذاكِرِي بالغَيْبِ فيمن ذَكرتَهُ

فَلي عِندَكَ العين الذي ليس تَطرِفُ

فَلي عِندَكَ العين الذي ليس تَطرِفُ

So remember me in my absence among those you have remembered,

So remember me in absentia amongst those you remember

for you owe me the “eye” that does not blink.

For you are to me an eye that does not look away
