قَابلْتُI encountered مِنهاfrom it رَوْضَةًa garden أَدبيَّةًliterary
قَابلْتُ مِنها رَوْضَةً أَدبيَّةً
قَبَّلْتُI kissed مِنهاfrom it كُلَّevery حُسْنٍbeauty يُعْشَقُthat is adored
قَبَّلْتُ مِنها كُلَّ حُسْنٍ يُعْشَقُ
I encountered in it a garden of letters.
I met a garden of gentility in her
I kissed every beauty in it that is adored.
I kissed all her beauty that's loved
وَفَررْتُand I fled بالنَّظمِwith poetry المُحِيطِencircling بِجانبيaround my side
وَفَررْتُ بالنَّظمِ المُحِيطِ بِجانبي
مِنfrom لُجِّهاits deep waters والبيتُand the verse (also: house) حَوْليaround me خَنْدقُa moat
مِن لُجِّها والبيتُ حَوْلي خَنْدقُ
And I fled, with poetry encircling my side,
And I escaped with the rhymes surrounding me
from its deep waters, while the verse around me was a moat.
From her sea as the house around me was a trench
