أَنشَدَني شِعْراً بهِ

أَنشَدَني شِعْراً بهِ

ظنَنْتُ فَاهُ مَبْعَرا

ظنَنْتُ فَاهُ مَبْعَرا

He recited some verse to me; because of it,

He recited poetry to me with it

I thought his mouth was a dung-hole.

I thought his mouth was eloquent

وَقالَ لي كَيْفَ تَرَى

وَقالَ لي كَيْفَ تَرَى

قُلْتُ أَرَى مِثلَ الخَرا

قُلْتُ أَرَى مِثلَ الخَرا

And he said to me, “What do you think?”

And he said to me, what do you think?

I said, “I think it’s like shit.”

I said, I think it's like braying

فَقالَ لى اسمَعْ غَيرَهُ

فَقالَ لى اسمَعْ غَيرَهُ

قُلْتُ كَفَى ما قَد جَرَى

قُلْتُ كَفَى ما قَد جَرَى

Then he said to me, “Listen to another.”

So he said to me, listen to another

I said, “What has already passed is enough.”

I said, enough of what has happened
