عِزٌّglory يَدومُendures وإقْبالٌand good fortune لِصَاحبهِfor its possessor
The noble patron has glory that never perishes, so say:
Enduring glory, and good fortune for its possessor.
إذاif الأَباعِدُdistant folk أَعْداهاimparted to them الوَزِيرُthe vizier عُلاًeminence
حَقّاًtruly فَلِمْthen why لاnot تَراهاyou see it فيamong أَقاربهِhis relatives
If the vizier has spread eminence to distant folk,
Truly, then why do you not see it among his kin?

Time lies in my cap today, O sons of Asad,
Though once it eluded me more cunningly than its foxes.

And since it saw me, an orphan, beneath your banner,
It has meant me no harm through its calamities.

You have attained a rank that struts with joy,
And the noble steed prances, proud of its rider.
قَدْindeed قَدَّمَadvanced اللَّهُGod مِقداماًa bold champion وأَوطأَهُand made him tread

The ranks that noble deeds have paved for him.
وَجَاءَand he came يَتلُوfollowing المُجَلّيthe front-runner فيin يَدَيْthe two hands of كَرَمٍgenerosity

And he came following the front-runner, in generosity's hands,
People falling short of even the least of his gifts.

Bright-browed—a radiance upon his forehead guides you,
While calamity's night is pitch-dark with its deep shadows.
