بَقِيتُI kept on فيin كلِّevery يَومٍday كَمْhow often أروحُI go in the evening وَكَمْand how often
I go in the morning وَملَّand grew weary المُكارِيthe muleteer كَمْhow often يُرَدّنيhe brings me back
I keep going each day—how often in the evening, and how often
In the morning! The muleteer has tired of bringing me back so often.
وَلاand not أُزادI am given more علىbeyond التَّقارِrespectful greetings عندَكُمُwith you
كأَنّنيas though I جِئْتُكُمْcame to you رَأْساًa head بِلاwithout بَدَنِa body
Yet with you I receive nothing beyond respectful greetings,
As though I had come to you a head without a body.
