No garden, amid blooms unfurled and finely patterned,

    Its flowers gilded and silvered,

For which the cloud wept and rent her robe,

While lightning smiled with a flashing mouth,

And the earth's cheek blushed within it, abashed

By its narcissus's languid, sickness-bringing gaze,

Is ever lovelier than lines fashioned

    By al-Sharif's mind—so leave al-Radi's verse aside—

Each a Ja'fari verse that surpassed it,

Like al-Ja'fari—and what he built has not been razed.
