رَدَدْتُI restored فيَّwithin me بِذاكَat that المُلْتَقَىmeeting نَفَساa breath

At that meeting I recovered my breath.
And I was at a funeral that you turned into a wedding.
وَرُحْتُand I went on أَتلُوI recite أَلَمْdid … not? نَشْرَحْWe expand وَوجهُكَwhile your face ليtoward me

And I went on reciting “Did We not expand,” while your face toward me
Had brightened—not the face of one to whom I recite “He frowned.”
وكانَand was قَلبيَmy heart يَشكُوlamenting طُولَthe length of وَحشَتهِits loneliness

And my heart had been lamenting its long loneliness
To my breast; now it has settled in my breast and found companionship.

And moist pearls delighted it, flowing from
A throat that sees every other throat as parched beside it.
وإنْand if نَظَرْتُI gaze لِرَوْضٍat a garden فَوْقَupon مُهْرَقهِhis page

And if I gaze at a garden upon his page,
Then look at the life-giving rain that gushed from his palm.
