Friend, rise! The breeze of dawn has stirred,
And the great trees’ bough has fluttering tassels.

So drink at dawn a north-wind-cooled wine, whose cups
Have brought water into union with flame.
لاdo not تدَعْleave لَذَّةَthe pleasure يَومٍof a day لِغَدٍfor tomorrow
لا تدَعْ لَذَّةَ يَومٍ لِغَدٍ

قَبْلَ عَوْدِ الدَّهْرِ فِيَما قَدْ وَهَبْ
Do not leave a day’s pleasure for tomorrow,
Before time takes back what it has given.
وَتَغنىَّand sang الطَّيْرُthe birds فَالأَزْهارُso the flowers قَدْalready

And the birds have sung, so the flowers have
Burst their calyxes from sheer rapture.
