بَيْنَاwhile أُفَارِقُI leave behind رَجْفَةًa tremor مَرْهُوبةًdreaded
بَيْنَا أُفَارِقُ رَجْفَةً مَرْهُوبةً
لاقَيْتُI encountered مِنfrom أُخْرَىanother فِراقَthe departure of الرُّوحِthe soul
لاقَيْتُ مِن أُخْرَى فِراقَ الرُّوحِ
While I am leaving one dreaded shudder behind,
As I was leaving behind a dreaded tremor,
I meet in another the soul’s departure.
From another, I encountered the soul’s departure.
فَإذاand when انْقَضَتْended هذِىthis one تَراءَتْappeared هذهِthis one
فَإذا انْقَضَتْ هذِى تَراءَتْ هذهِ
كَتَرادُفِlike the succession of الأَمْوَاجِthe waves يَوْمَon a day of الرِّيحِthe wind
كَتَرادُفِ الأَمْوَاجِ يَوْمَ الرِّيحِ
When this one passes, the next comes into view,
And when this one ends, that one comes into view,
like waves following one another on a day of wind.
Like waves following one another on a windy day.
