وَتحتَكَ بِرْذَوْنٌ يُظلُّ بِظلِّهِ

وَتحتَكَ بِرْذَوْنٌ يُظلُّ بِظلِّهِ

صُقُورٌ تَأيَّا مَوتَهُ وَنُسُورُ

صُقُورٌ تَأيَّا مَوتَهُ وَنُسُورُ

And beneath you is a packhorse whose shade shelters

Falcons awaiting its death, and vultures.

لِسَائرهِ لَوْلا ضُلُوعٌ تَخَالُها

لِسَائرهِ لَوْلا ضُلُوعٌ تَخَالُها

فِخَاخاً لها مَنْصُوبةً فَتَطِيرُ

فِخَاخاً لها مَنْصُوبةً فَتَطِيرُ

They would come for the rest of it, but for ribs they take

For traps set for them, and so they fly away.

يَرَى أَنَّ لِلَّطاحُونِ آخِرَ أَمْرهِ

يَرَى أَنَّ لِلَّطاحُونِ آخِرَ أَمْرهِ

وَيَعْلَمُ أنَّ الدَّائراتِ تَدورُ

وَيَعْلَمُ أنَّ الدَّائراتِ تَدورُ

It sees that its final lot is the mill,

And knows that fortune’s wheels turn.
