إذاwhen تَفكَّرْتُI pondered فيon حَظِّيmy lot وَجُودِكَand your generosity لاnot
إذا تَفكَّرْتُ في حَظِّي وَجُودِكَ لا
أَنْفَكI emerge مِنfrom عَجَبٍastonishment إلاَّexcept إلىinto عَجَبِastonishment
أَنْفَك مِن عَجَبٍ إلاَّ إلى عَجَبِ
Whenever I ponder my lot and your bounty, I
When I ponder my lot and your generosity, I do not
never leave one astonishment but to enter another.
emerge from one astonishment except into another.
وَجُمْلَةُand the gist الأَمْرِof the matter أَنّيthat I مُتُّI died مِنof ظَمَأٍthirst
وَجُمْلَةُ الأَمْرِ أَنّي مُتُّ مِن ظَمَأٍ
إلىfor نَدَاكَyour bounty وَقَدْand indeed أَجْملْتُI was modest فيin الطّلَبِthe request

The sum of the matter is this: I died of thirst
And the gist of the matter is that I have died of thirst
for your bounty, though you kept me sitting there asking.
for your bounty, though I have been modest in my request.
