يَارَبّ صُنْ وجهِي عَنِ الكُرَماءِ

يَارَبّ صُنْ وجهِي عَنِ الكُرَماءِ

فَضْلاً عَنِ الحاجاتِ لِلْؤُماءِ

فَضْلاً عَنِ الحاجاتِ لِلْؤُماءِ

O Lord, preserve my dignity from having to face even the generous,

O Lord, shield my face from the generous,

let alone taking my needs to the ignoble.

Let alone from presenting my needs to the ignoble.

فلقَدْ رأيتُ القومَ جَفُّوا أَيدياً

فلقَدْ رأيتُ القومَ جَفُّوا أَيدياً

حتَّى كَأَنْ لمْ يُخلقُوا مِن ماءِ

حتَّى كَأَنْ لمْ يُخلقُوا مِن ماءِ

For I have seen the people grow dry-handed,

For I have seen the people grow dry of hand,

until it seemed they had not been created from water.

Till it is as though they were not created from water.
