وَقهوةٌand a wine سَبَقَتْpreceded كُev- (first fragment of 'every')
وَقهوةٌ سَبَقَتْ كُ
لَّ-ery (completing 'every') مُدَّةٍspan of time وَأَوانِand season
لَّ مُدَّةٍ وَأَوانِ
And a wine that preceded ev-
And coffee preceded every
ery span of time and season!
Era and time
عَجِبْتُI marveled مِنهاat it تُسمَّىis called
عَجِبْتُ مِنها تُسمَّى
مَعْdespite ذاكَthat بِنْتَdaughter of الدِّنانِthe wine jars
مَعْ ذاكَ بِنْتَ الدِّنانِ
I marveled that it is called,
I wondered why it was called
despite that, the daughter of wine jars.
The daughter of misery
وَلَوand if كَنَوْهَاthey gave it a kinship epithet بِحَقٍّrightly
وَلَو كَنَوْهَا بِحَقٍّ
لَقِيلَit would surely be called أُمَّmother of الزَّمانِtime
لَقِيلَ أُمَّ الزَّمانِ
And had they given it a fitting epithet,
If it was truly named
it would surely be called the mother of Time.
It would be called the mother of time
