وأَصُيَدَ ظَلَّ يُدْرِكُ يومَ صَيْدٍ

وأَصُيَدَ ظَلَّ يُدْرِكُ يومَ صَيْدٍ

طَرائِدَهُ بِجُرْدٍ كالسَّعَالي

طَرائِدَهُ بِجُرْدٍ كالسَّعَالي

And a proud, lordly man, on a day of hunting, kept overtaking

his quarry on sleek, short-haired steeds like desert ghouls.

فإنْ عَبِقَتْ لنا يُمناهُ مِسْكاً

فإنْ عَبِقَتْ لنا يُمناهُ مِسْكاً

فَإنَّ المِسْكَ بَعضُ دَمِ الغَزال

فَإنَّ المِسْكَ بَعضُ دَمِ الغَزال

If his right hand was fragrant to us with musk,

So if his right hand smells of musk to us,

then musk is but a portion of the gazelle’s blood.

Then musk is indeed part of the gazelle's blood.
