وَعَيْشِكَand by your life لَمْnot أَكَدْI nearly could أَسلُوهُforget him كَبْشاًa ram
يَطُولُgoes on at length عليهِover him نَوْحِيmy wailing وانتِحابيand my sobbing
By your life, I can scarcely forget him—a ram
I hardly made your living a sacrificial lamb
over whom my wailing and sobbing go on.
on which my wailing and moaning would be long
وَقَدْand indeed أَعْلنتُهُI proclaimed him; perhaps 'fed him' عَلَفاًfodder تَماماًin full
فَحَاوَلَso it tried شَحْمُهُhis fat شَقَّto split الوِهابِthe hide (uncertain reading)
And I had [fed] him a full ration of fodder,
I declared it completely as fodder
so his fat tried to split the [hide].
Its fatness broke through the Giver
فَهَدّواso they demolished حَائِطاًa wall أَخَذوهُthey took him مِنهُfrom it
وَعَنْهُand for him يَضِيقُis too narrow مُشْكلُthe problematic part; perhaps 'frame' كُلِّevery بَابِdoor
They demolished a wall and took him out through it,
So they demolished a wall and took it from him
for every door's [frame] was too narrow for him.
And through it, the issue of every door was narrowed
فَإِنْso if لَمْnot أُوتِI was given مِنany of ذَنْبٍa sin; perhaps 'a tail' فَإنّيthen I
أَمِنتُwas safe منfrom الكِلابِthe dogs بَنيsons of الكِلابِthe dogs
So if I was given not even a [tail], then I
For if I were not given any sins, then I
was safe from the dogs, those sons of dogs.
Would be safe from the dogs, O children of dogs
وحَظّيand my fortune قَدْhad كَبَابيstumbled with me دُونَshort of حَظِّيmy share
بِعِيدِat the feast of النَّحْرِsacrifice مِنof أَكْلِeating الكَبابِthe kebabs
And my luck had tripped me up, leaving me short of my share
And my luck deceived me, unlike my luck
of eating kebabs at the Feast of Sacrifice.
On the feast of sacrifice, from eating the cooked meat
فَأَنعشَهُthen he revived it الوَزيرُthe vizier فَقامَand it rose يَسعَىhastening
بِكَبْشٍwith a ram خُلِّقَتْwere perfumed مِنهُfrom it رِحَابيmy courtyards
Then the vizier revived it, and it rose and hastened
So the minister revived him, and he began to run
with a ram that perfumed my courtyards.
With a spacious lamb created from it
