قَدْindeed عَقَدَhas sealed الإفْلاسُbankruptcy ليfor me تَوْبَةًrepentance
I did not think it منfrom قبلهِbefore it تَنْعَقِدْwould take hold
Bankruptcy has sealed my repentance,
Bankruptcy has tied for me a repentance
Which I never thought would take hold before bankruptcy.
I hadn't tied before it became tied
وَقَدْand indeed كَفانيhas sufficed me وَاعِظاًas a preacher زَاجِراًrestraining
أَنَّthat مِنamong العِفَّةِchastity مَالاwhat ... not نَجِدْwe obtain
And enough for me as a stern preacher
And it has sufficed me as a preacher and deterrent
Is that some chastity comes from what we cannot obtain.
That with decency no money we find
وَجَاءَand came شَيْبيmy gray hair لِيَزِيدَto increase الجفَاestrangement
فَقُلْتُso I said يكْفِيis enough مَاwhat جَرَىhas happened لاdo not تُزِدْadd more
And my gray hair came to deepen the estrangement,
And my gray hair came to increase the estrangement
So I said, “What has happened is enough; add no more.”
So I said suffice what has passed do not increase
