أَقُولُI say لِعُذَّاليto my reproachers وَلَمْand have not يَعْرِفُواknown الهَوَىlove
ولاnor أَلِفُواgrown familiar with مَاذاwhat العَناءُsuffering مِنfrom الحُبِّlove
I say to my reproachers, who have never known love,
nor grown familiar with the suffering love brings:
عَشِقتُI fell in love وَليwhile I had قَلْبٌa heart وَقَدْand indeed ذَهَبُواthey went away بِهِwith it
فَلَوْso if رُمْتُI sought سُلْواناًforgetfulness سَلَوْتُI would forget بِلاwithout قَلْبِa heart
I fell in love while I had a heart, and they have taken it away;
So if I sought forgetfulness, I would forget without a heart.
