أَمَّا السَّمَاحُ فَقَدْ مضَى وَقد انقَضَى

أَمَّا السَّمَاحُ فَقَدْ مضَى وَقد انقَضَى

فَتَسَلَّ عنهُ ولا تَسَلْ عَن خَيْرِهِ

فَتَسَلَّ عنهُ ولا تَسَلْ عَن خَيْرِهِ

As for generosity, it has passed away and come to an end.

So cease grieving over it, and do not ask about its goodness.

واسكُتْ إذا خاضَ الوَرَى في ذِكْرهِ

واسكُتْ إذا خاضَ الوَرَى في ذِكْرهِ

حتَّى يَخُوضُوا في حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ

حتَّى يَخُوضُوا في حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ

And keep silent when people speak of it,

until they turn to a different subject.
