أَيُذَلُّare ... humiliated? رُسْليmy messengers فيin اقْتضاءِdemanding fulfillment of وُعُودِهِhis promises
وَأَقْرَبُand nearer مِمَّاthan what أَرْتَجِيهِI hope for it الكَواكِبُthe stars
Are my messengers humiliated in demanding fulfillment of his promises?
Does my messenger hasten to fulfill his promise?
And the stars are nearer than what I hope for.
He is nearer than the stars I wishfully watch.
وأُفْضِيand I send إليهِto him قَاصِداًa messenger بَعْدَafter قَاصِدٍa messenger
كَمَاjust as بُدِّلَتْwere exchanged تَحْتَbeneath البَريِدِthe courier الجَنائِبُthe spare mounts
And I send him messenger after messenger,
I journey to him, pilgrim after pilgrim,
just as spare mounts were changed beneath the courier.
As the saddles were changed beneath the mail.
وَلَوْand even if سَارَjourneyed وَمْضُthe flash البَرْقِof lightning والرِّيحُand the wind عِنْدَهُat his place
لَكَلاَّboth would grow weary وَكَلاَّand no! لَيْسَnot يُدرِكُis overtaken (contextual reading) كاذِبُa liar
And even if lightning's flash and the wind journeyed to him,
If the lightning's flash and the winds sped to him,
both would grow weary—and no! A liar cannot be overtaken.
Still, no and no! A liar cannot overtake.
