وَفتىً يَقولُ أَنا الجوادُ وَمَالهُ

وَفتىً يَقولُ أَنا الجوادُ وَمَالهُ

جُودٌ وأَحسَبُهُ يَبِرُّ ويَصْدُقُ

جُودٌ وأَحسَبُهُ يَبِرُّ ويَصْدُقُ

And a young man says, “I am generous,” though he has no

A youth who says, "I am generous," yet has no wealth

generosity; and I think he is true to his word and speaks the truth.

I think him virtuous and truthful, though he is broke

أَبَداً تَراهُ هَارِباً مِن طالبٍ

أَبَداً تَراهُ هَارِباً مِن طالبٍ

فَهْوَ الجَوادُ لأَنَّهُ لا يُلْحَقُ

فَهْوَ الجَوادُ لأَنَّهُ لا يُلْحَقُ

You always see him fleeing from a petitioner;

You'll never see him flee from one who seeks a gift

so he is a swift steed, for he cannot be overtaken.

For he is generous, as he cannot be caught
