واخَجْلتيAlas, my shame! وَصَحَائفيand my pages سُودٌblack غَداًtomorrow
واخَجْلتي وَصَحَائفي سُودٌ غَداً
وَصَحَائفُand the pages الأَبْرارِthe righteous فيin إشْراقِradiance
وَصَحَائفُ الأَبْرارِ في إشْراقِ
Alas, my shame! Tomorrow my pages will be black,
My pages will be blackened tomorrow,
while the pages of the righteous shine.
While the pages of the virtuous are radiant.
وَتَوقُعيand my expectation لِمُوبِّخٍof a rebuker ليto me قَائلٍsaying
وَتَوقُعي لِمُوبِّخٍ لي قَائلٍ
أَكَذاis it thus? تَكونُwill be صَحَائِفُthe pages الوَرَّاقِal-Warraq (the paper seller)
أَكَذا تَكونُ صَحَائِفُ الوَرَّاقِ
And I expect someone to rebuke me, saying:
I await a reproacher saying to me:
“Is this how al-Warraq’s pages will be?”
"Is this how the pages of the writer turn out?"
