After drawing near you, hopes have nowhere farther to go.

Nor, after today, is there anything left to ask of time.

God has indeed made possible among us what brings us joy.

Thus every heart came to have joy as its share.

The path to right guidance was hidden from no one.

And the full moon shines, and the proof becomes clear.

And the breeze bears a fragrance I would not have known,

Had the city's fragrance and praises not wafted.

Through Yusuf and his brother, Egypt is smiling.

And coy grace and merriment have made her sides sway.

The two who freely give whatever their palms hold,

While their honor lies behind a veil, not to be glimpsed.

From a people like the unsheathed swords of India,

Yet on the day of pardon, they heal what they wounded.

They are a clear white blaze upon the brow of time,

Without blemish; yet others are white blotches of disease.

Their virtues have been strung upon the thread of glory,

And they have become prayer beads among humankind.
