I shut out the sun's rays, and she burned with longing.

And with evening she came, intruding uninvited.

So much so that the breeze took pity on her, for she had

been tinged with the pallor of one rebuffed and ashamed.

So it bent the branches for her, and there opened for her

paths, and through them she gained access.

Then she drew near; departure distressed her, so she bade farewell,

And hers was the backward glance of one who wished not to leave.

Until, when the sun's eyelid grew drowsy,

and a kohl-dark eye gazed out from the darkness,

the beloved visited, and it was as though my day and the dark night

    were both white-blazed and white-stockinged.
