أَأَفرَحُ بابنِ أتى والمَشي
بُcompletion of “gray hair” بَيَّضُhas whitened فَوْدِىَmy temples بَعْدَafter السَّوَادِblackness
بُ بَيَّضُ فَوْدِىَ بَعْدَ السَّوَادِ
Shall I rejoice in a son who has come, when gray hair
has whitened my temples after they were black?
وَمَاذاand what أَقُولُshall I say لأَهْلِto people of العُقُولِunderstanding
وَمَاذا أَقُولُ لأَهْلِ العُقُولِ
إذاif ماemphatic particle زَرَعْتُI have sown أَوانَat the time of الحَصَادِthe harvest
إذا ما زَرَعْتُ أَوانَ الحَصَادِ
And what shall I say to those of understanding
if I have sown at harvest time?
