So he grants me respite from the fever altogether,

in its entirety, with the furnace now ablaze.

And for a year I have endured her; then she departs,

    and returns, angry and scowling.

Whenever she lifts from me on a breeze—

a pleasant one—the Marīs wind brings her back.

For the physician has grown weary, and so has my family,

and the bride who shares my bed has tired of me.

And she said, 'Tell me, have you become a monk?'

So I said, 'Yes, and in my house is a recluse.'
