لِلطَّواشيbelonging to the eunuch الرَّشِيدِal-Rashid بِرْكَةُa pool مَاءٍwater
لِلطَّواشي الرَّشِيدِ بِرْكَةُ مَاءٍ
زيّنتْهاadorned it دَساتِرٌfountain spouts كالهّوُدِlike the Jews
زيّنتْها دَساتِرٌ كالهّوُدِ
The eunuch al-Rashid has a pool of water,
The righteous shooting star has blessed water,
adorned with fountain spouts resembling Jews.
Adorned with constitutions like fish traps,
صِيغَwere fashioned فِيهاin it صَوَالجٌpolo mallets مِنof لُجَيْنٍsilver
صِيغَ فِيها صَوَالجٌ مِن لُجَيْنٍ
كانعِطافِlike the curving of الأَصْداغِthe temple-locks فَوْقَabove الخُدُودِthe cheeks
كانعِطافِ الأَصْداغِ فَوْقَ الخُدُودِ
Within it, polo mallets were fashioned of silver,
In it, bridges of pearls were built,
like the curve of temple-locks above the cheeks.
Like the bending of cheeks over the cheeks.
وَتَدانَتْand drew close together مِنهاof them الأَعَاليthe upper ends فَقَامَتْso rose
وَتَدانَتْ مِنها الأَعَالي فَقَامَتْ
خَيْمَةٌa tent فيin الهَوَاthe air بِغَيْرِwithout عَمُودِa pole
خَيْمَةٌ في الهَوَا بِغَيْرِ عَمُودِ
And their upper ends drew together, so there rose
And from it, high places converged, so
a tent in the air without a pole.
A tent stood in the air without pillars,
يَالَهاwhat a ... it is! خَيمَةًtent لِطيبِfor the pleasantness of مُقَامٍa stay
يَالَها خَيمَةً لِطيبِ مُقَامٍ
لاnot لِتَجْهِيزِfor equipping عَسْكَرٍan army وجُنُودِand soldiers
لا لِتَجْهِيزِ عَسْكَرٍ وجُنُودِ
What a tent it is for a pleasant stay,
What a tent it is, for the goodness of lodging,
not for equipping an army and soldiers!
Not for the preparation of an army and troops.
وَلَدَيْهاand beside it لَيْثانِtwo lions قَدْindeed جَحداthe two denied خَوْfear (first part)
وَلَدَيْها لَيْثانِ قَدْ جَحدا خَوْ
فَcompletion of 'fear' سُطَاهُhis might إذْas فَاقَhe surpassed بَأْسَthe prowess of الأُسُودِthe lions
فَ سُطَاهُ إذْ فَاقَ بَأْسَ الأُسُودِ
And beside it are two lions that have denied fear
And next to it are two lions who denied the rage,
of his might, as he surpassed the prowess of lions.
So its elite surpassed the ferocity of the giants.
لَيْسَis not فِيماamong what رَأَيْتُI have seen أَحْسَنَmore beautiful مِنهاthan it
لَيْسَ فِيما رَأَيْتُ أَحْسَنَ مِنها
غَيْرَexcept خُلْقٍcharacter مِنof الشِّهابِal-Shihab رَشِيدِRashid
غَيْرَ خُلْقٍ مِن الشِّهابِ رَشِيدِ
Nothing I have seen is lovelier than it,
I saw nothing more beautiful than it
save the character of al-Shihab Rashid.
