فَقَدthen he has قلَّدَconferred الإحسانَkindness منfrom حَيْثُwhere لاnot يَدرِيhe knows
If a miser withholds his gift from me,
he has done me a kindness without knowing it.
وَلَمْand did not يَتكلَّفْundertake كاهِليmy shoulders حَمْلَbearing مَنّهِhis favor

My shoulders have not had to bear the burden of his favor—
no, nor has my tongue had to offer him praise or thanks.
