أَرَّقَنيkept me sleepless دُمّلٌa boil وأَقلَقَنيand distressed me
أَرَّقَني دُمّلٌ وأَقلَقَني
فَماso what لِلَيليwith my night وَمَالَهُand it has no فَجْرُdawn
فَما لِلَيلي وَمَالَهُ فَجْرُ
A boil has kept me sleepless and distressed me.
A plump one kept me awake and made me restless,
So what ails my night, that it has no dawn?
so what does my night owe to its dawn?
حتَّىeven لقدindeed يُعْجَبُis amazed السَّمَنْدلُthe salamander مِنat
حتَّى لقد يُعْجَبُ السَّمَنْدلُ مِن
بَقاءِsurvival جِسمِيmy body وَحَشْوُand the innards مُحمَّرُroasted
بَقاءِ جِسمِي وَحَشْوُ مُحمَّرُ
Even the salamander is indeed amazed at
Until even the salamander is amazed by
My body's survival, while its innards are roasted.
the survival of my body and reddened stuffing.
